What if leaving isn't only about getting away from someone, but also about discovering parts of yourself you never knew existed?
In this episode of Beyond Our Stories, we sit down with Giada Joys to talk not only about losing yourself in a relationship, but more importantly about finding the courage to leave and slowly discovering who you can become afterward.
Giada takes us back to the person she was before the relationship, including arriving in New York with what she describes as a "luggage full of dreams." She shares how experiences from her childhood shaped what love felt like to her, and how that understanding followed her into a relationship where affection gradually became manipulation, humiliation and fear.
We talk about why recognizing an unhealthy relationship can be so difficult when you're living inside it, why leaving is rarely as simple as it appears from the outside, and what happens when you have spent so long questioning yourself that trusting your own voice becomes difficult.
Giada also shares what it was like watching I Love You My Narcissist. Certain moments brought her back to experiences from her own relationship so strongly that she needed to pause the movie and take breaks. Through Emily's story, she recognized emotions and dynamics that felt deeply familiar.
Ultimately, this is a conversation about what can happen when leaving something that made you lose yourself becomes the beginning of discovering who you are.
