Mara, a young Romanian woman, is living in the United States on a temporary residence permit, where she works as a caregiver. While waiting for her Green Card and hoping to bring her young son to the U.S., she marries Daniel, an American.

However, her American dream soon begins to fall apart as she is confronted with abuse of power in various forms. Ultimately, Mara finds herself facing an immoral decision of her own.
